Welcome to ZooHUB

  • PREDICT

    Identify animal-borne disease risk

  • ACT

    Protect animals from disease

  • SOLVE

    Healthy animals, healthy planet.

Diseases in animals can devastate global health. ZooHUB’s mission is to predict zoonotic disease outbreaks and help guide action to prevent those outbreaks.

The Challenge

  • 2.5 billion people are infected each year by animal-borne disease.
  • 2.7 million people die each year from animal-borne diseases.
  • Animal-borne diseases are the number one source of global infectious disease.
  • 60 percent of known infectious diseases in people are spread from animals.
  • 75 percent of new or emerging infectious diseases are spread from animals.
  • No integrated global detection and rapid response service exists.
  • Responses are delayed. Lives are lost.

Predict.

ZooHUB incorporates dozens of technologies, including satellite and weather mapping, insect infection rates, and DNA analyses of bacteria, all combined with artificial intelligence-based predictive analytics toolsets to guide programs that will prevent animal-borne diseases and save lives.

Act.

Prediction is only part of the solution.

In conjunction with strategic partners, ZooHUB will support "One Health" solutions, which focus on protecting animals from disease. Healthier animals mean safer supplies of protein and milk, globally. Healthier animals also are less likely to sicken humans.

The "Data to Dissemination" provided by ZooHUB will allow a new level of rapid-response coordination for many of the endeavors performed by government agencies like the U.S. Center for Disease Control & Prevention and private organizations like the World Health Organization.

ZooHUB will strengthen and leverage existing resources, helping our partners and the public make the best choices to help protect themselves and their communities.

Predictive Analytics Proof of Concept

  • ZooHUB partners* created a proof-of-concept based on data collected in the State of Connecticut.
  • The data included ticks analyzed for Lyme disease infection, weather patterns, and satellite images.
  • The results showed an ability to predict infection risk on a block-by-block basis with a 95% confidence interval.
  • From this proof-of-concept, a larger pilot study is being conducted with larger datasets.
